Tube Glass Rotameters : Simple and Visual Flow Indication
Pioneer offers tube glass rotameters (also known as variable area flowmeters) for a simple, reliable, and cost-effective way to visually monitor the flow rate of liquids and gases. These instruments provide an immediate indication of flow and are easy to install and maintain.
How Tube Glass Rotameters Work
A rotameter consists of a tapered glass tube (typically borosilicate glass) and a float. The fluid flows upward through the tube, causing the float to rise to a position where the upward force of the fluid equals the downward force of gravity on the float. The height of the float is directly proportional to the flow rate, and the flow rate can be read directly from a scale on the tube
Advantages of Tube Glass Rotameters
- Simplicity : Easy to understand and operate, with no complex electronics.
- Visual Indication : Provides a direct, visual indication of flow rate.
- Low Cost: Generally inexpensive compared to other flowmeter technologies.
- External Power Required : Operates solely on the energy of the flowing fluid.
- Low Pressure Drop : Introduces minimal pressure loss into the system.
- Good for Low Flow Rates: Can accurately measure relatively low flow rates.
Applications
- Laboratory Use : Measuring gas and liquid flow rates in experiments.
- Purging Systems : Monitoring purge gas flow rates.
- Gas Analyzers : Regulating sample gas flow rates.
- Water Treatment : Monitoring flow rates in various processes.
- Chemical Processing : Measuring flow rates of relatively clean liquids and gases.
- HVAC : Measuring airflow in ducts (for larger rotameters).
- Medical Equipment
- Oem Applications
Key Considerations
- Fluid Compatibility : Ensure the rotameter materials (glass tube, float, O-rings) are compatible with the fluid.
- Pressure and Temperature Limits : Glass tube rotameters have pressure and temperature limitations.
- Viscosity : The viscosity of the fluid can affect the accuracy of the reading.
- Vertical Mounting : Rotameters typically need to be mounted vertically.
- Clean Fluids : Best suited for relatively clean fluids, as particles can obstruct the float.
